He’s Dead…Murdered!…And Somebody’s Responsible!

Via Ken Levine, I found this YouTube compilation of David Caruso’s Greatest Sunglasses Putting On Moments from CSI: Miami, and it reminded me of how much this show annoys s.z. (For those of you who haven’t had the pleasure, Caruso’s character, Horatio Caine, is a cop with a weakness for 800 dollar suits, womany Italian sunglasses, and Joe Friday-like zingers full of pith and vinegar, and delivered with the pacing and brio of a Pinter play.) Below is a bit on CSI: Miami, taken from this pensee on irritating TV shows that s.z. wrote for the old site, and below that, the video…in question. Put on your sunglasses…and…Enjoy.

“CSI: Miami”

We hate “CSI: Miami.” Why do we watch it? Well, partly because we have nothing else to do Monday nights at 9:00. But more, we watch it to hate.

When we heard the promo stating that one of the “CSI: Miami” cast would die in the season premiere, we hoped that it would be Horatio Caine. We hate him with the heat of 1000 suns. It’s one of those satanic confluences of an an annoying actor and an annoying character that together rise above annoyingness to reach, um, hatability.

We hate the way he talks — both the way David Caruso reads a line, and the stupid lines they give him to read. For instance, one his team will say something obvious like, “Hey, a dead body!” And EVERY TIME Horatio will reply with something portentous and pompous, like “Not dead … murdered. And it’s our job to catch murderers.” He’ll say it like everybody should be thanking him for pointing this out, because they’re, like, such idiots that without him they would have thought their job was to wear designer clothes and look hot. Oh, wait, that IS their job.

And then crime scene investigator Horatio will single-handedly wrestle a gang of murderous rappers to the ground, and will later later show up at their execution so he can quip something like, “You thought it was cool to hook kids on crack. Let’s see how cool you are in the electric chair, my friend.”

And then he will promise some cute little kid that he, Horatio Caine, will make sure that the kid never gets scared by anything ever again in his life. And then he will be sadly misunderstood by the Italian supermodel/cop who is the widow of his junkie brother, and spend the last five minutes of the program brooding about how life is, like, so unfair.

Anyway, like I said, I hoped that Horatio would be the one who died last week. But I figured that he really wouldn’t be, since Miami would presumably be buried under the weight of the inhabitants incompetence if he wasn’t there to tell cops that it was their job to catch murderers. So, I figured that it would be the Italian supermodel/cop who would bite the bullet, because (a) her accent makes her hard to understand, and (b) it would give Horatio a whole season’s worth of brooding fodder.

But no, it turned out to be Speed, the scruffy guy — the only one on the show with enough smarts (and gumption) to roll his eyes when Horatio gave one of his lectures on what their job is. A hot young Hispanic man was briefly shown working in the lab — we presume he will be Speed’s replacement. They should just change the name of the program to “CSI: Supermodels” and be done with it. Then there wouldn’t be any reason at all that the coroner can’t show up at crime scenes in a bikini, instead of the skimpy tank tops that she wears now.

Of all of the painful aspects of this sub-par franchise (why in the FUCK can’t either of the CSI spinoffs afford to hire actual WRITERS like the original?!??!?!!), the one that hit me first and has driven me nuts through the entire existence of this piece of dreck is David Caruso’s character’s NAME.
HORATIO CANE.
Horatio fucking CANE.
HURRICANE.
In MIAMI.
Tres’ sensitive, non? Considering how many people in Southern Florida, the Redneck Riviera, and the entire Gulf South have DIED because of fucking hurricanes.
I’ve seen cheesy shit in my day, I’m a huge fan of Ed Wood movies, I even like to torment myself with those 2/$1 DVD b&w schlock that they sell at Fred’s Super Dollar Store. But naming the main character of a show set in Miami HORATIO FUCKING CANE — that is, without a doubt, the tackiest thing that I’ve ever seen on television, including every idiotic and over-sedated word to fall out of Laura Bush’s thorazine-slanted mouth.
Caruso should be put to sleep, honestly. I like the little blonde girl from Baton Rouge, and I love the woman who plays the female coroner, but they killed off the one character that I actually liked, the guy from “Dazed & Confused.” But there is no hope of Caruso ever becoming an actual “actor,” so please, somebody, put him out of my misery. SOON. And then go after those mongoloid fucktards that they call “writers” on the two worst franchise schlock pieces of shit, because my 4-year-old brilliant curly-haired great-niece could write CIRCLES around those fucking morons.
I used to think that Gary Sinise was a really talented actor, until I found out that not only was he willing to work on that hackneyed “CSI:NY” shit, but that he’s a REPUBLICUNT, to boot. CBS should be drawn & quartered for sullying the brilliance of the original CSI with those two cunt-fart excuses for spin-offs.
BTW, Scott, please continue to send S.Z. all of my love, and my sincere hope that SHE hasn’t been eaten by the menagerie that took over her house, and thank you again and again and again for helping with the kittehs fundraising. You rawk like a mofo, bigger than Whitesnake’s hair and faulty homemade pyrotechnics.
Ditto on the love to S.Z., though my personal opinion is not that she’s been eaten by cats but that she’s busy sorting out the AG thing and finding the evidence that will force–yes, force!–Bush to finally fire Alberto Gonzales, Andy Card, and Barney the Dog, though Barney may find a way to pin it on Miss Beazley. He’s a Bush male, after all, and they don’t take responsibility of there’s a scapegoat handy.
Personally, I hate CSI Miami for the same reason I hate all CSI shows: every time I walk through the goddamned living room, someone is dissecting a body with squishy noises and discussing cannibalism. I’m not sure who their writers are, but someone should probably organize a search of their freezers.
I dunno, maybe I just have a higher threshold for gross-squishy noises/objects, when I know that they’re fake.
When I see real blood (that isn’t mine) and real separated bodies/body parts, I hurl from the toenails up. But knowing that the shit on TV and in movies is fake is the only way that I can deal with it. Before CGI, I could even tell you HOW they did the makeup/gore/gushy body parts. But then, nobody does REAL gore anymore except for Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino, and they OVERdo it.
The guy who created the original (Las Vegas) CSI isn’t a serial killer, he was a fucking VALET PARKER at a casino who witnessed a few crime scene break-downs and was nosy enough to watch the CSI techs do their jobs, and that’s where the idea came from, and with the right technical experts to advise them, that’s how the writing staff does it. No Gacy-esque babies under the house, no teeny-tiny small-mammal torture sites or graves in the backyard. Just a guy who got a good idea and somehow managed to get an agent to look at his script, the one thing that has stymied me all of my writing life.
Lucky bastid.
Thank you for the most inspiring post. I love when people speak out openly what I think.
I would like to quote you if you don’t mind.
Oh, it’s good to hear from s.z. again, even if it’s just an old post. Please add my greetings and well wishes to the others! God, I HATE CSI:Miami, and this post is such a perfect statement of all the reasons why! But I’m with Annti (as usual), I love all kinds of silly, farcical stuff and I love the original CSI (my kids and I schedule our Thursday evenings around it). Sorry, DS, it’s that squishy, gooey, gross stuff that makes it such FUN! I think the capper was that episode where the poor, fat compulisve overeater guy died and they had to inspect the contents of his stomach!!! And somebody invariably cracks a bad joke while holding up a severed limb or an eyeball or something. Heh! Great stuff.
I’ve never seen those shows, and was only able to get about 1/4″ into the above video. (The bar-thingy was about 1/4″ along when I tried to “STOP STOP STOP! You’re KILLING me!” it) That guy is creepy.
you forgot the thing that irritates me to no end. the putting on and taking off of his sunglasses to accentuate the Cheesy dialogue. Also when he talks to Khandi Alexxander’s charac tere, he always, always says “Aaaalex, what do we have here”
I’ve heard that the adorable Canadian actor Brendan Fehr (Roswell) has a recurring lab tech role in CSI:Miami, but I hate that show so much I haven’t been able to bring myself to watch it, even to see him.
Yeah, I agree: Original CSI brilliant, spinoffs, ACK!!!
What’s the deal with the bald-headed chickenfucker in the Lt. Brass role, the one with the lipless sphincter for a mouth? ALWAYS in a bad mood like his wife had to administer a suppository that morning.
It’s not even gross/squishy per se… It’s the fact that I only go into the living room on my way to the kitchen, so every time I’m making dinner, I get to hear detailed discussions of cannibalism. And at top volume, because my idiot housemate is hard of hearing and downloads all her TV shows so she can’t even use the closed captioning.
So my objection is not so much “Eew, gross”, because we all know I dig monster movies, but would probably be better explained as “Not while I’m *eating*, dammit!”
Oh jeebus! Do I fucking HATE that fucking show.
Even if I’ve had enough wine to let the supermodel aspect pander to my prurient side…
Just catching passing glimpses of it chokes me down somewhere between apoplexy and projectile vomiting.
And just thinking of that STUPID bald fucktard of a cop makes me wish I could eat my own head from the inside…
But hey, at least they got over that idiotic phase of ol’ Ho’ putting his sunglasses on his neck.
Boy, THAT trend really took off!
And yes, you touched a nerve.
What are YOU lookin’ at?
And they use a goddam Who song!
BASTARDS!!!!
I’ll have to check it out after I get home. We have YouTube (and MySpace) blocked at work.
We just added a new touch today. When you try to access either site from our network, you’re redirected to this.
Heh. Realist, I love the way that you think.
And HeyDave, they ALLLLLLL three use Who songs — once Entwhistle died, Roger & Pete went ALL-OUT in the WHORING bidness. How much MORE money do they fucking NEED, anyway?!?!??!!?
Wow! Suckalicious!
Thanks, I really needed the laugh tonight!
http://www.cathaven.org/feral.htm
(Blogspamming for a good cause, dammit.)
I’ve hated him since NYPD Blue. I was damn glad when he left that show.
Caruso was in a limited run movie a few years back; something about gutting the ol’ asylum building, very supernatural themed. He didn’t suck so bad then; guess he got over it.
Of course, he was killed in that movie, so maybe I just liked it because of that.
heydave – that’s a great little creeper named Session 9 that I liked a lot too.
I don’t get the whole CSI thing at all. I really don’t understand the love for the original which has to be the most smug and uninspired shite I’ve seen on TV since Nash Bridges, which explains the diminishing returns on the cast-offs I suppose.
My mom absolutely loves stuff like Murder She Wrote, Matlock, etc. and CSI simply smacks of a contemporary update (ie, more stylish clothes and spooky lighting) on that type of turgid, by-the-numbers mystery-cracking that seemingly never fails to hold the rapt attention of complete fucking dolts.
Whoops, I just realized I called my mom a complete fucking dolt, and so soon after her special day too!
Sorry Ma.
Nevertheless, I hold fast to the believe that solving a CSI puzzle is about as complicated as cracking an old Encyclopedia Brown mystery.
Kind of enjoyed Caruso as the smirking gangleader leprechaun (Shamrocks I think the gang was, it’s an irish thing you see) in Hill Street Blues.
And not a single thing since.
The shade-donning compilation was a hoot and I’m still trying to figure out what the hell it means when “the verdict is in, Frank– but the jury is still out.”
WTF?
“jlo” — you also just called a whole lot of US “complete fucking dolts,” too.
Thanks ever so.
And I was a huge fan of Encyclopedia Brown — when I was SIX.
But don’t start shit around here by picking on people’s taste in TV shows or calling names because of what shows we like — this is a TV/movie-loving crowd here, and that just ain’t fucking KOSHER.
Vosburg, do ANY of his snarky pointless little lines EVER make any fucking sense? He does no exposition, none of his lines or deeds forward the action whatsofuckingever — he’s like the Greek chorus, only WITH NO FUCKING POINT OR EXPOSITION.
At least hang around a while and make friends before calling people complete fucking dolts, anyway. We seem to take that kind of thing better when we know you. Of course, “taking that kind of thing better” tends to mean calling you a complete fucking dolt for various reasons as well. But we mean it with love, I expect.
The only reason I watch the show is for the helicopter fly-bys. My best friend lives in a high-rise off the coast, and I like to see if his building shows up (as well as other areas I am familiar with.)
Other than that, the show is crap. Give me the original CSI any time.
[...] [...]
Question. How many morons out there actually believe what they see on those garbage CSI shows is actually true? Well boys and girls, sadly — millions.
Take this scenario. A rare, hard to find rope was used to create a corpse of some poor slob. Yep, it was gonna be hard to find who might sell this rope. Hold it – no it ain’t. Let’s fire up our CSI Rope Database which will search the inventory of every store on the planet. Yep, it worked.
Let’s whip right over to these stores and see who bought this rope. We’ll then have suspects and eventually nail the killer.
Listen up CSI dickheads. There ain’t no rope database.
CSI do not track down leads. I have seen episodes where they stake-out suspects waiting for them to leave behind a DNA sample. Listen up CSI twitbrains — IT’S MADE UP.
How can anyone enjoy a television show that is crap from start to finish.
Speaking of cops. Have you ever noticed that Brass cop on the regular CSI series always works the same shift as the CSI gang does? Caruso cop guy from Miami always looks at people sideways. He also pays a lot of hospital bills and funeral expenses for crime victims. He is one swell man.
You may have noticed the CSI shows have a database to search anything. They can search people’s private medical records to see what drugs a person has purchased. Here is the scenario from CSI Miami. I could have it backwards, not being an insulin expert, but this is the general idea.
CSI twits have determined that the murderer uses insulin because the murder scene has a sweet smell, which supposedly insulin does when a person is getting low. The suspect they are interviewing doesn’t stink, but his limo does. Holy smokes, CSI now knows said suspect uses insulin. Good thing they smelled inside the limo. CSI hunches that the suspect must have injected just before committing the dreadful deed this time around. No problem for CSI. They search a database for all people who bought insulin in the last 24 hours, and yes, the suspects name is on the list. Get real CSI. There ain’t no way, ever, that this is plausible. It would mean they can search every pharmacist’s database anytime they damn well feel like it. Duh. How did they get permission to do this? I guess all pharmacies are required by law to let the police search people’s private records. More Duh!
Anytime a CSI person has a hunch about something, they sit their sweet ass down at a computer, and just start typing. Poof, up pops an answer. There was no need to actually find the correct non-existant database first, then search.
CSI’s are experts of all trades. They can inspect a car from top to bottom to determine if someone was messin with it. They can analyze a cars electronics just like that and understand what the data means. Wow! It takes a real mechanic a long time to learn this.
Holy Smokes CSI writers. Here is an idea for a spinoff. The show is about a mechanic who just happens to be an expert in all things CSI.
Stay tuned CSI lovers. More idiotic scenarios coming soon.
And here is another as promised.
CSI gang is at the home of some suspect. They lift a fingerprint from some object. It just so happens that one of the gang has the set of fingerprints with them of the person who committed the crime. The two are compared, but not with any scientific means, just by a casual glance, and guess what – they match. Crime solved.
Same scenario as above, this time one of the gang has a transparent image of a tire tread with them. He puts this image on a tire of the suspect vehicle and instantly declares “It’s a match” Yeah, well it will match thousands of other tires as well. A match is found by finding some irregularity. How did he know which tire to compare? Maybe the irregularity was on the bottom of the tire. Maybe in real life the tires would need to be removed, taken to the lab where some kind of established comparing method has to be used.
In the meantime all of those CSI FREAKS should be required by law to increase your intelligence about the real world of CSI.

Law & Order Report

Our friend Anntichrist Coulter chastised us (and rightfully so) for not mentioning that the case that Law & Order ripped from the headlines last Friday was Ted Haggard’s. Only this time, the male prostitute was murdered.

While ripped-from-the headlines Ted comes in for lots of scorn (and an arrest for murder), the main target of derision is his megachurch empire (which Jack McCoy says is so much of a business that it will probably be going public soon). Even D.A. Cornpone can’t think of anything nice to say about it. Interestingly enough, I just did a Google search and can’t see where James Dobson or Don Wildmon has denounced NBC yet. But maybe they still are trying to avoid any association with Pastor Ted, even though he’s now 100% heterosexual, and only uses meth for sex with the wife.

Looking Ahead: But you know the story that the L&O franchise is already working on is the “Astronaut love triangle, with adult diapers” one. In fact, it’s so big, I’m predicting it will appear on both the original AND on “Special Victims Unit.” However, only one of them will have Anna Nicole Smith be the victim of the love-crazed astronaut.

Anyway, from what I could tell from the previews, Bill O’Reilly does not murder Keith Olbermann this week for continually calling him “The World’s Worst Person.” However, Detective Stabler apparently finally snaps and kills somebody. If only the victim was D.A. Cornpone, I’d be tempted to go for jury nullification …

COMMENTS:

We could never be so lucky as to be able to remove Fred Thompson (it’s Thompson, right?) from the public view.
He’s about as entertaining as watching a nurse-practicioner drain the boil on the ass of the world’s oldest mule.
And here’s hoping that Stabler killed somebody who NEEDED killing… *sigh*
Did you know that Dick Wolf went to prep school with George W Bush?
Ummmmmm… nooooooo, never heard that one. Where’s the evidence?

Law & Order: Treachery and Dirty Tricks Division

Wow, the Scooter trial has gone all “Law & Order” on us even faster than I thought it would! As the NY Times headline writer put it, “At the Libby Trial, Hints of Intrigue and Betrayal.” For it seems that Scooter’s lawyers are claiming that “White House aides had sacrificed him to protect Karl Rove” and that said aides “deliberately set … Mr. Libby up to be a scapegoat.”

Of course, the defense hasn’t yet explained how these nefarious officials forced Scooter to lie to FBI and DOJ investigators, but I’m sure that will come out in day two or so.

As you may recall, in our L&O scenario, we had the character based on Scooter being shot in the court house before he could testify against Dick Cheney — but with real life giving us such a cracker jack opening scene, our plot seems too tame now. And, given L&O’s recent penchant for ripping from at least two different headlines for each episode, our story probably isn’t complicated (or lurid) enough to get aired.

So, your challenge is to come up with your own plot for “Law and Order” — you need to start out with the Plame case and trial of Scooter Libby. but then you need to mix in some other recent news item for that special L&O twist. Here are a couple of examples.

1. Scooter/Brittany Spears dropping her baby and later showing off her lack of undies. Plotline: Somebody leaks the name of an undercover terrorism expert to the press, thus killing Jack Bauer and forcing everyone to sit through 24 hours of Jack’s funeral. A senior White House Official lies to the intestigators about it, and is prosecuted. But that case is crowded off the front page when a pop starlet feeds some hungry crocodiles while holding her baby, and accidentally drops it into a croc’s mouth. And she isn’t wearing any panties.

In a surprise legal move, Jack McCoy tries the two cases together. When she takes the stand, the starlet reveals that her baby was fathered by Karl Rove’s, which is why Scooter was sacrificed — he was ordered to leak stuff about Plame and then lie about it to deflect attention from her pregnancy. She takes a plea deal in exchange for her testimonty that she dropped the child on purpose, at Rove’s command, to get rid of the incriminating child. The undies were stolen by Russian spies who wanted to bring the affair out into the open, but after one of them was poisoned by a plutonium pellet that the RNC slipped into his tea, the other one agrees to testify in exchange for Judith Regan’s old job at Harper-Collins.

2. Scooter/ the case of those kidnapped boys found in Missouri, one who had been missing for four years.

Plotline: During one of his radio segments, an obnoxious news personality based on Bill O’Reilly blows the cover of a CIA employee working in North Korea. The agent is captured and killed only minutes before she was to bring out Kim’s secret nuclear strategy, so Bill is tried for treason, and executed. Everybody at the D.A’s office is happy. Even the defense seems glad.

But wait, there’s more!

It seems that the leak came from the White House, which offers up a senior advisor as a scapegoat. He stays mum until, in an emotional scene in the last act, he testifies that Karl Rove kidnapped him 30 years ago, and he was not only psychologically unable to escape, he also had to do Karl’s dirty work, because he was so afraid of Karl, who used secret “Manchurian Candidate” brainwashing techniques on him. The advisor claims that Karl is a North Korean mole. Then Karl takes the stand, and says that he was only following the orders of his secret master, Reverend Moon. He blurts out that his next assignment was to have been the murder of Tom Cruise for claiming to the new Jesus Christ. It all ends with the revelation that George W. Bush, like LonelyGirl15, is just an actor following a script. So, everybody wants their money back, and Jack McCoy files a class action suit on their behalf.

And so on.

Now, make up your own scenarios. Here are some recent headlines for you to work with.

Military Develops Non-Lethal Ray Gun
CBS News – 8 hours ago

So, they’ve developed a peaceful deathray?
(AP) The military’s new weapon is a ray gun that shoots a beam that makes people feel as if they will catch fire. The technology is supposed to be harmless
Oh, I think someone needs to ask Crow T Robot how “harmless” that really is, even though it is pretty funny.
24 hours of Jack Bauer’s funeral? Have mercy.
Valerie Wilson goes to Aruba to get away from the horror of being outed as a CIA agent. She disappears, and FOX news only mentions it a couple of times…Jack McCoy prosecutes BillO for the murder of Valerie. BillO breaks down on the stand and admits Karl Rove and VP Cheney made him “do it”. But he won’t say what “It” is.
The solution to the murder is:
BillO. In the Shower. With the Falafel.
Can the new ray gun be used at the same time as waterboarding? I bet we’re going to find out. This administration is full of sick fucks who’d think that was ultracool.
Interior, police car. Back-seat two-shot of cops drinking coffee and discussing upcoming Big Game. “Whaddya you, nuts? He’s gonna throw for 400 yards against the best defense in the NFL?” Reply interrupted by
Radio cackle. Disturbance at the Gramercy Park Hotel. Hey, that’s right around the corner. Hit lights and screamer.
Interior, hotel hallway. Manager explaining something about screams. Cops have manager unlock door, burst in. All quiet, nothing out of place, until they look in bathroom, find young woman hanging from shower-curtain rod. Manager explains they have to make shower fixtures extra strong to avoid lawsuits. Cops simultaneously turn and look at him.
Dum-dum. Titles. Commercial.
Driver’s license says girl was 18 and from Terre Haute, Indiana (it’s always Terre Haute, Indiana). ME says she was manually strangled first, positive for Ecstasy and had sexual intercourse, consensual, shortly before death. Hair found stuck to bottom of her foot sent to lab for DNA test, likely African-American. Grief-stricken Parents had no idea she was in New York, thought she was at school in Chicago. No boyfriends they know of. Certainly not African-American. “She was very busy with her studies”.
College roomate reveals she hung out at Chicago Bombers practices, thinks she had a boyfriend but doesn’t know who. “Great,” says Fontana,”an African-American professional football player. We’ve narrowed it down to 75% of the team.” “Don’t forget the coach,” says Green.
By happy coincidence, Big Game being played at the Meadowlands this year. Interviews with the team turn up nothing. Bombers coach Randall “Jelly” DuPree says everybody made bed check the night of the murder. Lab gets a DNA match–it’s the coach of the opposing team! They’re both African Americans! Things look bad for him when it turns out he had a rape beef in college hushed up by the university. But opposing coach insists he didn’t know the girl, and his whereabouts are accounted for for the entire night in question. Fontana and Green begin to smell a set-up.
Then Van Buren tells them that inexplicably popular cornpone radio personality Hank “Hacksaw” Hawkins (simulcast on MSNBC) has revealed secret details about the case on that morning’s show. Hacksaw won’t reveal his sources, but tells the detectives they should take another look at DuPree. Fontana and Green re-interview the team, break the coach’s alibi, and get him to admit having sex with the girl that night. “But she was alive when I left her.”
Poring over reams of evidence late at night, McCoy realizes that there’s nothing anywhere about DuPree’s football career before college. Checking further he finds that there’s nothing anywhere about DuPree at all before 1978. The next day whoever is his assistant this week gets a visit from an old law school classmate, now working for the Feds, who warns her darkly that her boss ought to drop the investigation of DuPree because of some unspecified federal interest.
Then Hacksaw fails to turn up for his morning show, and he’s fished out of the Hudson. ME Rodgers finds a bus-station locker key hidden in a secret compartment in his oversized belt buckle. Rushing to the station the cops retrieve a folder which proves that DuPree, under the cover of coaching a professional football team, was actually a CIA agent who was involved in shipping uranium to Iraq without Saddam’s knowledge and leaving a trail of obviously phony bills of lading as a casus belli. This is the case that Federal prosecutor Mike Murphy was working on, and he was just about to file charges against Vice-Presidential advisor Frank “Muggles” Henderson. It turns out that the feds had tracked Henderson to the hotel that night, and watched him leave again, right around the time of the murder. McCoy is livid. Murphy says, “Maybe you better calm down, Jack. And maybe you ought to ask your boss what he knows about Hank Hawkins.”
Hawkins turns out to have been a Republican operative with ties to the crooked voting machine company which gamed the election of inexplicably popular conepone Manhattan DA Arthur Branch. Fontana and Green come to arrest him. He asks to be allowed to use the bathroom first. Door closes. Gunshot. “Created by Dick Wolfe” says the graphic, leaving us to wonder until next week whether Riley gets the bonus points.
…Valerie Wilson is found, alive and well, tho incoherent, at a truck stop in Nevada. She claims she was kidnapped by Scientologists who tried to brainwash her into having Tom Cruise’s child. Then she changes her story, says it was Moonies who took her. Or maybe aliens.

Close: the Wilsons have moved from Washington to Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Warmer.
Military Develops Non-Lethal Ray Gun
I’ve seen enough Looney Tunes to know that targets of this weapon learns to start carrying large mirrors. Acme makes the best ones, I hear.
Careening through the streets of a suburb near the campus of a major university, an attractive slightly overweight Afro American female drives a van mounted with appears to be a satelite dish, chasing a band of underwear clad middleaged white males and one skinny white woman through the early morning hours. Screams of fright and pain come from the pursued as residents stand about in disbelief and amusement. Said 18 year old Riley “NuTop Dawg” Wilkerson,” Like I was comin’ in from this party over across town in the Heights( PeteyWheatstraw Heights) when I hear all this screamin’ and sh…uh stuff so I grabs my piece and my boy Newton ( 19 yr. old Newton ” Lil Cut N’ Slash “Thomas )says “What the F…uh goin’ on ?” and then we sees other folks in the ‘hood comin’outside or lookin’through theys windows up the street at these crazy crackers runnin’ down the street. Me and my boy look at each and we figure let’s jack they … remind them it’s a new day what they grandfolks used to do back in the day ain’t happenin’ now. I notice other fellas thinkin’ likewise even my uncle Clyde comes out with his sawed off callin’ ‘em all kinda cracker bastards and stuff, he used to be in the Black Panthers, when we see the van that’s chasing ‘em. Like it ain’t tryin’to run ‘em over or anything like that, but it’s keepin’ ‘em movin’ ya know? Then we hear this sound like those microwaves be makin’ in the movies when somebody stuffs a monster or somethin’ in one, and the crac… white peoples were screamin’ and jumpin’like theys were in one them Three Stooges movies. Mrs. Dexta is lookin’ at the driver and she recognizes her she goes” Ain’t that Reverend Mosely mannish ass daughter Rachel?” And I kinda remember Rachel ’cause you know back in tenth grade we was kind of tight and all, and we went to the prom party over at Biggy Mitch’s house, and you know things got slippery and wet,if you understand what I’m sayin’ so when they circle the block again I see it’s her so does Newton and his girl April(Jackson 18) who just woke her passed out self up.” The said Rachel Mosely, currently employed as a dancer at the Deep Nastee Club, was hired to provide entertainment at an event held in the Doodie & Woody Shoodie Memorial Science Hall and Jerky Kitchens on the campus of Passiton University where several rightwing commentators debated whether Galileo’s liberal agenda ruined the image of science as a reliable truthfinder “Moses and Jesus didn’t say anything about a round Earth” was their topic. A Drunken insult and ethnic slur caused Rachel who in the vernacular “is two degrees past thick” in a rage found the prototype of the US Army’s Heat Beam Emitter in its camoflage as a cable news truck. Further details are forthcoming.
S.Z., how on earth could I compete with yours?!??!
I hardly ever watch L&O anymore, except for SVU (when you’ve got crushes on both of the stars, whaddayagonnado?), so I’m probably too far out of touch with the plot formulae to pull it off anyway.
But as for that “ray gun” — whatever happened to that thing that they tested on the protest crowds in Miami over the FTAA? It was a microwave/subsonic-sound broadcaster, like a remote-microwave broadcaster for commercial radio (MARTI), except that the signal was concentrated, in order to produce heart flutters and possibly even STOPPING the hearts/causing major migraines/possible strokes in MASS GROUPS — how come we haven’t heard about THAT evil-ass weapon in years? Did they give up on it or are they using it and, as usual, denying that it exists?
the Scooter trial has gone all “Law & Order” on us
Isn’t that one of those shows about heroic government employees protecting the public? Sorry, I’m too old to watch cartoons.
(Scene: Darkened bedroom in Kennebunkport, late night. Babs and George asleep. Phone rings on night table, Babs answers it, George keeps sleeping.)

TO BE CONTINUED………
Yeah, but Realist… Jayne Mansfield’s daughter is PURRRDY. So is the guy, Christopher Meloni.
Hey, a girl needs entertainment, whaddaya gonna do?
Besides, they’re both that “maverick” typecast, as in, they don’t “go by the books” to catch the rapists/child-molesters, etc. — it’s a cute mythology, as far from reality as it may be. After all, if anybody really gave a fuck about kids in this country, instead of just TALKING about kids all of the fucking time, then these lowlifes wouldn’t be out in public as it is.

 Human Events Online

While flashy wingnut sites like WorldNetDaily,  RenewAmerica, and Power Line seem to get most of the attention,  today I want to pay tribute to  HUMAN EVENTS ONLINE, which is just as wingnutty as the others, and which also possesses its own special charm.

So, here's just a sampler of the delights that HEO has to offer.

1.  The Top 10 Movies Conservative College Students are Watching -- ("Ranked by the staff of the Leadership Institute’s Campus Leadership Program").
1. The Passion of the Christ

The testament of Christ, the basis of all Western thought and tradition, the most important moment in history.
ALL Western thought and tradition are based on the New Testament?  Maybe the Campus Leadership Institute's staff should spend less time leading and more time going to class.
5. Death Wish
After his family is destroyed by thugs, Charles Bronson decides to teach criminals the lesson that the liberals can’t through courtrooms or mediation.

6. Red Dawn

Communists invade the heartland, and a band of boys take to the hills and start an insurgency against the invaders.

7. Dirty Harry

Much in the same vein as Death Wish, Clint Eastwood is a police officer doing what it takes to fight crime against the liberals who worry more about defendant rights than the victims.
8. The Outlaw Josey Wales

Clint Eastwood is a soldier who fights those who took everything he cared about.
Conservative college students are really into violent revenge fantasies (fantasies that the liberals won't make true), aren't they?

This makes me wonder if the #1 Conservative College Student movie of next year will be something like:
Death Wish 23: Jesus's Revenge
After he's crucified by thugs, Jesus resurrects himself and teaches the perps the lesson that the liberals can’t through courtrooms or mediation.  Then he and chief apostle Dirty Harry take to the hills and start an insurgency against the Roman invaders.
Maybe Jack Abramoff could produce it.

2.  Now here's Don Feder with The 10 Best Conservative Movies of 2005.
What is a conservative film?
Let’s start with what it isn’t. It’s not about men with bulging biceps and even bigger guns. It’s not cartoonish action heroes. It isn’t revenge tales masquerading as heroism.
Uh oh.  I guess the conservative college students didn't get the word.
Conservative cinema does more than entertain; movies that do no more are visual candy. It instructs and inspires.
So, conservative cinema is didactic is purpose, and one attends a conservative film not to be entertained, but to become a better person.  It's like church, only with popcorn.
Conservative films celebrate virtue. They tell timeless tales of individuals overcoming all manner of adversity to achieve true greatness. They’re about honesty, loyalty, courage and patriotism. They’re concerned with conservatism’s cardinal values – faith, family and freedom.
Um, okay,  What are some of Don's picks for this year's timeless tales of adversity, faith, family, and no sex?
2.     King Kong – [...] Superficially, it’s a fine action film. On a deeper level, its characters exemplify feminine virtue, masculine heroism and romantic love. The movie describes a hopeless romance and makes us care for its computer-generated title character.
I guess the Naomi Watts character exemplifies feminine virtue by letting men take care of her (and by not having sex with the giant ape). The guys who shoot at King Kong exemplify masculine heroism by trying to rescue a dame.  And the relationship between Naomi and the monkey exemplifies romantic love, in that it ends badly for everyone.
3.     The Island – Reviewers despised it. Audiences treated it as just another sci-fi flick. But “The Island” is a forceful and compelling pro-life statement.
The statement that cloning people, letting the clones grow up in ignorance in secret underground complexes, and then killing them and harvesting their organs isn't very nice.  (Obviously, if this were a liberal movie, the good guys would be the wealthy politicians who own the clones, and have them carved up for their own benefit.)
10.  Memoirs Of A Geisha – Surprised you, didn’t I? Reports to the contrary notwithstanding, the film  -- based on the 1997 bestseller by Arthur Golden -- is not about prostitution in the Land of the Rising Sun.. (As the film explains, a geisha isn’t a hooker in a kimono, but an “artist of the floating world” – though there is a sexual element to this world.)
Hey, that's not what fellow conservative Debbie Schlussel said in her review of the film, which she entitled "Memoirs of a Whore in a Kimona."
The heroine, Sayuri, is sold as a child to a geisha house. Her choices – to become a menial and spend the rest of her life working off her contract to “mother,” or embrace her destiny. She chooses the latter only when the kindness of a handsome businessman makes her yearn for a way to enter his world. Sayuri is brave, determined and compassionate. It’s touching to see a child form an attachment that lasts a lifetime.
Touching, or kind of creepy?  YOU make the call!  (And wasn't that basically the plot of Gigi, except that the handsome older guy ended up marrying her instead of taking her as his "artist"?  I wonder why Gigi didn't make the conservative college students top 10 list?)
[F]ocus on the story of a little girl who falls in love with a man, and endures much for the sake of that love.
Take your little girls to see it -- they might learn some tips on how to win the love of rich, old men ... and that's certainly one of conservatism's core values.

And that's Human Events Online On Film.   A little later we'll explore what they have to say about other stuff.

'Law & Order' Watch: Roger Ailes Edition

Last night's "Law & Order: Sexy Victims Unit" ripped the Dick Dasen story from the headlines -- well, if not from the headlines, then from pages of the Roger Ailes blog.

Yes, the perp was a Christian do-gooder who gave large "loans" to poor women addicted to crystal meth in exchange for sex, just like in the Dasen case.  L&O's bad guy had coerced sex with an underage girl, just like Dick (but the TV perv was only involved with one teen, and didn't take any illegal photos of her).  There was a meth-head who set up "dates" for Dick.  There were millions spent on sex (however, in an effort to make the story appear more believable, the L&O creep only spent $2 million, instead of the over $5 million that the city attorney figured Dasen actually spent).  There was the righteous, enabling, head-in-the-sand wife.  And we had not one, but TWO, dead women.  But in this version of the story, Dasen got shot before he could be convicted

Of course, since this was SVU, one story wasn't enough to fill up a whole episode (you'd have thought that the Dick Dasen story would be enough for a mini-series, but not even the Terri Schiavo case provided enough content for an SVU ep, and so Dick "Scott Peterson" Cain had to also be a speed-dating serial rapist).  Therefore, we also had the "Lost" boy as a victim's son who caught gun violence fever from hearing his mother get shot.*  And there was a slimy lawyer for an evil pro-gun lobbying group trying to keep the judge from accepting a plea deal from the boy.  And other twists and turns.
But they key thing is, I predict that NBC is going to hire blogger Roger Ailes to create a new series for them:

"Law & Order: Grand Old Police Blotter Files." The first story on the docket will be about a guy who greatly resembles Jack Abramoff who gets caught bribing public officials. He agrees to squeal on some of his associates in exchange for a reduced sentence, but before he can name names, he is shot in his home by a call-boy, one Jim Guckert, who refuses to answer any questions unless they're asked by George Bush himself. Guckert dies mysteriously before he can be interogated by the feds.

Guckert was obviously paid to do the job, but by whom? Was it Bob Ney? An Indian tribe that got ripped off and then mocked by Abramoff in his emails? Grover Norquist? Ralph Reed? Dennis Hastert? Dolph Lundgren? Tom DeLay? Karl Rove? Lynne Cheney?

You'll have to wait for the Law & Order twist in the last ten minutes to find out . . . unless you bribe Roger Ailes to disclose it to you ahead of time.

* BTW, you can read about the theory about gun violence cited by defense attorney Annie Potts here -- it's not nearly as silly as what the scriptwriter made it sound, even though he or she apparently thought the researcher who conducted the study was on to something.  I hope they get a better writer for the Abramoff ep.

Our Good Deed For the Day

There have been many japes and snide remarks made in the blogosphere about the new Pajamas Media logo (a bath robe surrounded by stink rays).  Some folks even went so far as to mockingly propose their own Pajamas Media Logo contest.

But that's not the way we operate here.  No, here at World O'Crap we are about using the synergy of the blogging community to create a paradigm of excellence.  So, what we propose is that Pajamas Media ally itself with The Pajama Company, and have Roger L. Simon or Charles Johnson model item #16706 ("red fleece one piece footy PJ's").
Red Fleece One Piece Footy PJ's
Then, Pajamas Media should use the photo of Roger or Charles wearing these actual pajamas as the new blogomedia enterprise's logo (properly surrounded by those trade-marked stink rays, of course).
Not only would this logo help PM to project a cool, hip, cutting-edge image, but it would benefit The Pajama Company too, because once Roger and Charles are seen in this garment (which would be PERFECT as the new official uniform of the 101st Fighting Keyboarders), sales will skyrocket!

I look forward to hearing from Tom Troja, VP Marketing & Business Development, so we can discuss my future job as a highly-paid PR person for Pajamas Media.  (I kinda doubt I will hear from the Pajama Company, since they seem to have an actual business plan, a real product, and lack $3.5 million of geek money to fritter away.)

Why We Fight: A 'War On Christmas' Update

Roger Ailes reports on the daring post office raid that dealt a crushing blow to pro-"Merry Christmas" forces.

I was especially interested in Roger's story, since I had just read (via Michelle Malkin) Darleen's account of the great post office stamp massacre. In case you missed it, it's about how Darleen's mother went to her local post office to buy stamps a few days ago, only to learn that the Madonna had been replaced by a cookie.  Here's what happened next:
She asks if they have any classic Christmas stamps and the man pulls out a couple of sheets of last year's Madonna and Child. Mom notices he doesn't seem happy and he says to her, "These are all I have and they'll be the last you ever see." Mom asks, "What do you mean?" He explains the USPS will not be issuing any more "religious" stamps.
Ever.
This is reminiscent of something that happened to me a few years ago.  I went to 7-11 to buy some Coca Cola.   All I could see was something called "New Coke."  I asked the clerk if they had any original Coke, and the man pulled out a couple of cans.  I noticed that he didn't seem happy, and so I sang "Careless Whispers" to cheer him up, and he promised to tell me what was going on if I would stop with the Wham! numbers.

He said to me, "These are all the cans of classic Coke I have, and they'll be the last you ever see."  I asked, "What do you mean?"  He explained that the safe in Atlanta which held the top secret recipe for Coke had been burgled by Nicaraguan rebels probably financed by Castro -- and without the priceless recipe, the Coca Cola company couldn't make the original Coke anymore.  He added that President Reagan was engaged in trading arms for hostages, and was planning on going behind Congress's back and using the money from the weapon sales to finance the Contras, who had promised to get our Coke recipe back.  But since there were anti-Reagan forces in the State Department who would undoubtedly spill the beans about the President's plan before it reached fruition, these would be the last cans of original coke I would ever see, and so I could surely see how they were worth $500 a piece.

I asked him how a 7-11 clerk happened to know all this, and he said it was announced at their last staff meeting.  So, I bought a can of real Coke for $500, and drank it sadly, in honor of a passing era.
And that's why we fight.

We Must Stop 'Desperate Housewives' Before It Kills Again!

Judith Reisman (the world's leading expert on why Alfred Kinsey is worse than Hitler, Stalin, and evil Abraham Lincoln combined) is back, and WorldNetDaily's got her! And she's just as wingnutty as ever, as a quick look at "'Pornography': TV's taboo word" demonstrates.
Following a recent interview for yet another documentary on pornography, I thought of so many things I should have said about pornography.
I had discussed its role as producing impotence, robbing men of their manhood. I had addressed its psychopharmacology as an "erototoxin." I had documented its presence in adultery, divorce, rape, child sex abuse and incest.
Judith's studies about the presence of porn in the cases of adultery, incest, etc. go along with previous studies which have documented the presence of Catcher in the Rye and Star Trek in cases of serial killers.  Proof positive that if something is ubiquitous enough, then it's responsible for everything bad that happens!

Anyway, what Judith apparently forgot to tell "yet another documentary on pornography" is that "CSI," "Desperate Housewives," and the TV news are responsible the sex crimes reported on the TV news.
I watched television on and off this evening. [...] Cadavers, once restricted to horror flicks are now a TV staple. The dead are commonly uncovered (still neck up) and discussed by a coolly attractive and yet sympathetic female coroner – often a minority woman – filling the professional working-woman diversity quota, while thrilling the desensitized audience at the same time.
So, um, desensitized audiences are being thrilled by the sight of actors pretending to be uncovered neck-up corpses, all while the networks are filling diversity quotas by giving the jobs of TV pathologists to minority women.  This sounds serious indeed!
During commercials, a lovely female newscaster says stay tuned for the "news" story of an 8-year-old being marketed for sex. Also "coming up," says another professional lady news "reporter," police just rescued a kidnapped teenager who had been locked in a dog kennel and rented out for sadistic sex. The "news" announcement of coming attractions shows police carrying out the dog kennel should anyone miss the latest in "how-to" commit copy-cat sex hate crimes.
I think that the FCC should ban the appearance of dog kennels on the public airwaves, so that nobody gets any ideas for copy-cat sex crimes.

Oh, since these news stories are being reported by women (at least one of them "lovely"), this demonstrates that the TV networks are programming you to associate desire and sex crimes. (Okay, Dr. Judith never comes out and says this, but it must be the reason she keeps harping on the presence of attractive female coroners and good-looking female newscasters, right?)

ABC's "Prime Time" righteously reports on the increase in sex crimes, including murder on American university campuses, suggesting that silly kids just don't protect themselves and that the universities don't police sufficiently. True, as far as that goes.
Naturally "Prime Time" makes no connection between sex crimes and their own fare – such as "Desperate Housewives" – entertaining the public with adultery, drug use, prostitution and mom's sex with teenage boys.
Yes, ABC's "Desperate Housewives," which featured a mom taking Ritalin so she'd have the energy to keep up with her household duties (and then suffered the consequences of her actions), and a non-mom's adulterous sexual relationship with one 17-year-old boy (who both suffered the consequences of their actions), is no doubt partially responsible for the brutal 2002 attack on a coed by an assailant who was after her car, as document on that "Primetime" special about campus security.
For unless it's "child pornography," TV dramas and news programs never use the word "pornography." No news or drama programs ever describe the media itselfas causing copy-cat crime and sado-sexual violence.
And no news or drama program ever describes the media itself as causing the weird medical conditions dramatized on "House" or featured on "Primetime."  I wonder why that is?
The mass media breeds serial-rapist-murdering juveniles and adults who imbibe their stimuli alongside Internet sex games and legal pornography, while Big Pharma hawks every sex and depression medication it legally can inbetween these increasingly pornographic programs.
Of course, back in the days when pornography was properly stigmatized, such as the Victorian age, there was no porn -- and in this era without "CSI," there were no sexual-sadist serial killers murdering prostitutes in the streets of London.

But anyway, as Judith explained before, all the bad stuff that gets reported these days is the fault of the news, for reporting it, of "CSI," for showing cadavers -- and also of Madonna, for existing.
One neurologist writes, our "brains are not in charge;" our bodies are our "subconscious minds." If so, our bodies are being aroused and conditioned to children locked in dog kennels for sex, cadavers coolly uncovered and sado-sexual lust dramas alongside Madonna (also on television the last day or so) as a new, happy "mom."

This is the same Madonna who tongue-kissed Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera on the MTV Awards in 2003, while her 6-year-old daughter (dressed in first-communion white, wearing a "BOY TOY" belt) tossed flower petals on the dance floor.
So, I guess our brains are all wired to want to tongue-kiss Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera now, and that's probably what caused the BTK killer to commit all those crimes in the 1970's.
Ah, for those clucking, elderly ladies who kept the young in check by their repressive gossip, as described by Evelyn Wyeth in "Brideshead Revisited." Gone.
Judith is trying to fill their niche, but she just can't do it alone!  So, please help Judith and WorldNetDaily condemn an E! "reality TV" series, as described in WND's lead story for today, "TV porn alert: 'Girls Next Door'."
The scholar who exposed fraud and exploitation in the work of sex researcher Alfred Kinsey is blowing the whistle on the E! cable channel's new "reality" show about Playboy founder Hugh Hefner and his three live-in girlfriends.
Judith Reisman, author of "Kinsey: Crime and Consequences" and a soon-to-be-released new title, "Kinsey's Attic: How One Man's Pathology Changed the World," says "Girls Next Door" is Hollywood's latest and boldest attempt to normalize pornography in our culture.
[...]
"The fact (that the network) states on its website it is owned 49.9 percent by Disney says it all," Reisman told WND. "Disney now pimps the antique, surgically enhanced Hugh Hefner playboy. Hefner's 'innocent' pornography will seduce dad. Seduce dad and you will get his kids. Seduce kids and you control; you own an entire impotent male population of users and female wannabees – forever."
So, Walt Disney is using Hugh Hefner to seduce dad, by showing dad Hugh's dippy girlfriends.  And once Walt has dad, then he will also get his kids, and will own an entire impotent male population (because Playboy makes one's wiener fall off, as has been widely documented).  Plus, Walt will own all of the "female wannabees."  (I'm not sure whether Judith is using that term to refer to men who want to be females, women who want to be Playboy bunnies, or females who want to be impotent men -- but in any case, if his plan suceeds, Walt will be owning a lot of people.)

You know, that sounds like a good idea for a TV show along the lines of the 1960's classic "The Invaders!", which was the story of architect David Vincent, a guy who went around the country trying to convince people that we were being invaded by aliens who had taken human form.  I think the story of wingnut Judith Reisman, who would travel the country trying to convince people that Walt Disney's frozen head was trying to control us all via Hugh Hefner, would make an equally suspenseful drama in the paranoid conspiracy genre.  Plus, it would make a nice break from all the shows featuring minority women coroners.

P.S.  Like Dr. Mike, Dr. Judith has a Ph.D. (hers is in communications).  She is also a "scholar."  So, if she says that Brideshead Revisited was written by Evelyn Wyeth, then it damned well was!
