Giving America Choices

And with refreshing modesty, Jonah directs us to Right Wing News, and a post in which John Hawkins says it's okay for conservatives to criticize Bush (guys, it IS okay -- trust me on this).  Hawkins heads off those who would say, "But Hawkins, but Hawkins, you guys voted for him. So it's like you endorsed his agenda," with the following:
Hey, I've got news for you; we don't have an unlimited number of viable candidates for President to choose from. Now if conservatives had a **REAL** choice between say Tom Delay, Jonah Goldberg, Thomas Sowell, & George Bush -- and we voted for George Bush -- you'd be right to say, "stop b*tching".
So, my question to you is: if you were a conservative, and these were your presidential choices, who would YOU pick?

  1. Tom Delay                      2.  Jonah Goldberg

3. Thomas "kidney" Sowell

4. George Bush

The Weekly Teamleader: Kerry Insults Guard, Bush Fiscally Responsible (and Positive)

Dear Republican,
The election season is getting near, and the differences emerging for voters in November are becoming clearer.
While the Democrats stoop to new lows in attacking President
Bush-and their frontrunner is exposed for blocking legislation and accepting related special interest money-the President has proposed a budget for 2005 that exercises fiscal discipline while remaining committed to fighting the War on Terror, protecting the homeland, and cutting taxes for hard-working Americans.
I expected the Democrats to distort their own records for political expediency, but I didn't think they would attack President Bush’s military service in the National Guard, and then disparage the National Guard itself.
As you can see from the links below, our team at the RNC headquarters is up to the task in getting the truth out. I am glad I can count on all of you, our Team Leaders, to spread our Party’s positive message, and the President’s positive agenda.
Yes, voters, here are your choices for President:

(1) George W. Bush, a fiscally-responsible guy who just proposed a 2.4 trillion budget which doesn't include any funding for keeping the troops in Afghanistan and Iraq  -- see, that's what makes him fiscally-responsible: the old "second-set-of-books" accounting method!

And Bush is also the one who will fight the War on Terror, and Protect the Homeland -- but only from our official terrorist enemies: brown-skinned foreigners.  (See David Niewert's Orcinus article "Ricin attack: What homeland security?" to learn that the ricin in the Senate mailroom, which Frist called "terrorism" a couple of days ago, is no longer terrorism, now that it appears that Saddam and al Qaeda weren't actually involved in the incident.)

Oh, and Bush is positive!

(2) A Democrat like John Kerry, who blocked legislation and accepted "related special interest money."  Does this mean that Kerry was BOUGHT BY SPECIAL INTEREST GROUP???  Well, that's what it sounds like, doesn't it?  Say no more, say no more.

And Kerry is also shockingly unkind.  While one (well, Ed) expected Kerry to talk about ("distort for political expediency") his record as a war hero, no one expected some kind of Spanish Inquisition about Bush's war record!!!  Kerry even disparged the National Guard, a group of hard-working Americans to which you or your loved ones might belong.  In fact, when you follow the link ("Kerry and Terry Insult National Guard"), to the GOP Team Leader site, you learn that Kerry said this:
'If people went to Canada, if people opposed the war, if people chose to be in the Guard, that's their choice, and I've never raised that in an issue,' he said." (Noelle Straub, "Kerry Presents Himself As GOP's Worst Nightmare," Boston Herald, 2/3/04)
So, Kerry didn't actually insult the Guard, he just said that if someone (Bush, say) served in the Guard instead of going to 'Nam, it was "their choice," and he's "never raised that as an issue."  Interestingly enough, the Team Leader quotes page doesn't provide you with the two paragraphs from the Boston Herald story which precede the part where Kerry "insults" the Guard:
Kerry also said he hasn't yet made up his mind whether he will make a campaign issue of Bush's failure to report for duty for several months when he was in the Texas National Guard.

But the Vietnam war hero said he would not criticize Bush for choosing to serve in the National Guard instead of fighting in Vietnam.
Thus we see that wasn't saying that Bush was a coward for choosing to serve in the Guard, he was saying that Bush made the choice to serve in the Guard (and then apparently failed to report for duty), and that Kerry hasn't decided whether or not to make an issue of that.   (You can see why the RNC wouldn't quote that part: not only because it helps to invalidate their "insult" interpretation, but because they don't want to remind anybody about that "failure to report for several months" business).  While Kerry didn't say it, I think the case can be made that the "draft dodgers" actually took a more honorable course than Bush did, because they didn't make committments they failed to honor, and then later claim they were war heroes, 'cause they learned to fly fighter jets and stuff.

Anyway, here are the rest of the Team Leader quotes which show Kerry (and DNC Chairman Terry McAuliffe) insulting the Guard:

Kerry Repeats Insult Of Guard. "'I've never made any judgments about any choice somebody made about avoiding the draft, about going to Canada, going to jail, being a conscientious objector, going into the National Guard,' Kerry, a decorated Vietnam veteran, told Fox News Channel. 'Those are choices people make.'" (Nick Anderson, "Buoyant Kerry Embraces Role Of Frontrunner," Los Angeles Times, 2/4/04)
DNC Chair Terry McAuliffe Says President Bush's National Guard Service Not Part Of Military. "George Bush never served in our military and our country." (ABC's "This Week," 2/1/04)
So, see?  If anybody says that Bush didn't serve our country (because he was AWOL), they are actually saying that the National Guard is a bunch of cowards and deserters!  Kerry and McAuliffe are insulting YOU, Mr. and Mrs. America!
BUT THEY IGNORE HONORABLE SERVICE OF NATIONAL GUARD TODAY
  • Over 460,000 Men And Women Serving In Air And Army National Guard. (2003 Reserve Forces Almanac, 2003, p.100)
  • 8,866 National Guard Soldiers Participated In Iraq War. ("Forces: U.S. & Coalition/Army, Army National Guard," CNN's "War In Iraq" Special Report Website, )
  • 22 Percent, Or More Than 28,000, Of 130,000 Soldiers In Iraq Right Now Are From National Guard And Reserves. (Jim Garamone, "Officials Detail Iraq Rotation Plans To Congress," American Forces Press Service, 1/28/04; Ron Martz, "Guard, Reserve Dying In Iraq," Cox News Service, 1/17/04)
The Republicans (and Bush) HONOR these brave Americans.  Unlike the Democrats, who spit in their faces!  Because if anyone questions Bush's service (or lack thereof) in the Texas National Guard, this person is insulting those reservists in Iraq who are protecting your freedom!  This person is, in effect, an AL QAEDA SYMPATHIZER!  So, who do YOU want as your President: a hero like Bush (who also believes in giving you, the hard-working American, a tax cut), or Kerry, a known terrorist?

Oh, and the Democrats are the negative guys, and you don't want to vote for that mean-spirited stuff, do you?

Right now you are probably asking yourself, "What else can I do to help President Bush's agenda as a Team Leader?"  (Well, you didn't know that HAD an agenda as a Team Leader, but you still want to help, right?)  So, here are some ways:
Attend a Republican MeetUp & Recruit New Team Leaders
Check out a Republican MeetUp* near you and use it to recruit new Team Leaders. *Please note the RNC in no way sponsors or is affiliated with "MeetUp."
Yes, the Republican Party is rather like Amway.  Thanks for asking.

Add Team Leader To Your SignatureYou can add the web address of Team Leader to your email signature. This will show your support for President Bush and encourage others to join.
While that does sound way cool, unfortunately the link provided doesn't say anything about how to do it.  So, instead I will share with you some Team Leader posts on the topic "Why I Am a Republican":
2-3-2004 4:54:18 PM I am a senior in high school and the election is this November...
I am a Republican because I believe in the same ideas as Republicans do. When I learned about Democrats in my AP Government class I thought, "Wow, those people have beliefs opposite of mine." I like what the Republicans do and I think that we have a great president and Republicans are the best!!! Re-elect Bush in 2004!!!!
2-1-2004 12:34:55 AM I am a Republican because my life is based on Faith, my Institutions on Family, but most of all I will fight for Freedom.
Spring 2000 the Presidential Primary was rapidly approaching, I was a Senior in Highschool determined to chose for myself teh party in which I identified. I chose the Republicans because of the quality of the candidate--George W. Bush. I am a Proud Conservative Christian Republican!
1-31-2004 2:06:13 AM I freely became a Republican when I read one of its ideology in one of a newspaper in which forever stuck in my mind: "If you give someone a handout, he will eat for that day, but if you give someone an education, he will be able to feed his family for a long time."
This last guy is clearly no Republican, because the ideology actually reads, "If you give someone a handout, he will blow it on drugs, booze, and abortions; but if you let someone earn, through honest hard work, a vocational education at a community college, he will be able to feed his family for a long time, and then his job will be outsourced to India, because that's how the free market works."

And here is the last way you can help Bush's agenda:
Make Sure Every Republican Is Registered To Vote! The 2004 election is coming up and every vote is critical to elect Republicans from the courthouse to the White House. Please make sure you and everyone you know is registered to vote.

Here we see President Bush doing his part to register Republican voters.  Sure, young Paco demurs, telling Bush that he's an illegal alien, and is also only 7-years-old.  But Bush, the positive guy, says none of that matters, as long as Paco registers as a Republican.  Oh, and apparently Paco is dead, and Bush is in heaven, trying to register young ball players, which really shows Bush's depth of committment.

So, get cracking on helping Bush's Team Leader agenda!  This is no place for loafers. Join me or die!  Can you do any less?
