Who Said It?

As Deb (and many of the rest of you) figured out, our Mystery Guests from last time were Ben Shapiro and James Lileks.  I hope they scared each other straight.

Now, which "geopolitical expert and adventurer who has been described as the 'originator or the Reagan Doctrine'" said this in response to Blue State threats to be thrilled to death if Mike Thompson suceeds in kicking them out of the Union:
Recall that it was Democrats who seceded the last time from America, in 1861. They were in full righteous fury defending the morality of slavery.
[...]
Thus the teachable moment – for abortion is morally no different than slavery, the claim that one human being may own another as personal property to be disposed of if the owner so chooses.
Thus we need to refer to abortion as "the peculiar institution," and Roe v. Wade as disgracefully unconstitutional as Dred Scott. Watch for this to happen. Watch for abortion advocates to be increasingly on the defensive as they are made to understand the moral equivalence between abortion and slavery.
[Note to ThatColoredFella -- it's not Don Imus, and it will probably never be him.  But feel free to play the lottery if it gives you a small flicker of hope about the future.]

From the "People Are Stupid" File

GREENSBURG, Pa. Nov 13, 2004 — A case of funny money has ended happily for a woman who had been charged with passing a bogus $200 bill with President Bush's picture on it.
Prosecutors in Pennsylania's Westmoreland County dropped all charges Friday against Deborah L. Trautwine, 51, after she paid the store in real currency.
Trautwine "wasn't aware that it … wasn't actual legal tender," said her attorney, Harry Smail Jr.
Trautwine could not be reached for comment. A clerk at a Fashion Bug clothing store also thought the bill was real and gave Trautwine $100.58 in change from her August purchase.
There is no $200 denomination bill, even without Bush's picture on it. None of the recent U.S. presidents has been depicted on American currency.
